Am currently working on a report about one (of many) informal and illicit money-making businesses in Lebanon: hashish.
Spent a weekend in a village that is “famous all over the world for the top-class hashish” – Yammouneh in the Bekaa Valley’s north-east.
It’s a tiny village, tucked in between two dusty mountain ranges, not far from the ancient city of Baalbek.
We were the only guests at the local hotel (a bed and a bathroom – wouldn’t give the place multiple stars though!) that weekend. Very interesting place.
